‘Turn and face the strange’

Single vineyard Garnacha treated in three different ways: whole bunch pressed down, carbonic maceration and de-stemmed by hand, all for 5 days. Raised in steel and amfora for 6 months.

Elegant wine with an expressive character. Beautiful contrast on the palate between the sharp fruitiness of the garnacha and a stoney graphite minerality of the licorella soil.

Description

Vinyes Tortuga is located in Rabós, a small town in the region of Alt-Empordá, Girona, Spain and consists of 9.5 ha of land that’s shared with almost extinct Tortugas. The proud owners are Dido and Jurriaan, a couple originally from Amsterdam, who now farm this entire estate according biodynamic principles. They strive to work as natural as possible, both on the land as well as in the winery, on the rhythm of the earth and her seasons, and without unnecessary chemical treatments. The vines are located between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean sea, receiving both enough humidity from the salty sea breeze as well as cool and dry winds from the mountains. The soil here consists of the famous Licorella, a blend of slate and graphite, that gets an honest chance to express itself in all of the wines made by Vinyes Tortuga.
