‘This monkey’s gone to heaven’

100% Barbera, partially whole bunch maceration and partially carbonic maceration for 7 days. Pressed together, first in amfora for 6 months, then transferred to an old oak barrel.

Crazy combination of strawberry candies and glazed rhubarb with an oxidative edge and vanilla softness. Is this a Barbera from Catalunya, a Ploussard from Jura, or something from outer space? We love it!

Vinyes Tortuga is located in Rabós, a small town in the region of Alt-Empordá, Girona, Spain and consists of 9.5 ha of land that’s shared with almost extinct Tortugas. The proud owners are Dido and Jurriaan, a couple originally from Amsterdam, who now farm this entire estate according biodynamic principles. They strive to work as natural as possible, both on the land as well as in the winery, on the rhythm of the earth and her seasons, and without unnecessary chemical treatments. The vines are located between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean sea, receiving both enough humidity from the salty sea breeze as well as cool and dry winds from the mountains. The soil here consists of the famous Licorella, a blend of slate and graphite, that gets an honest chance to express itself in all of the wines made by Vinyes Tortuga.
